RALEIGH - Donna Chavis has been selected by the NCGives Advisory Committee as the first executive director of this new initiative to celebrate and grow giving among youth, women, and communities of color.
"As a native of Robeson County, Donna understands the invaluable role that giving of time, talent, and money plays in the strength of North Carolina communities," said Pat Smith, chair of the NCGives Advisory Committee and president of the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. "She is one of the state's most experienced and respected philanthropic leaders. Her personal mission is closely tied to NCGives' mission."
Donna Chavis has led nonprofit organizations through staff and board positions, both in North Carolina and nationally. She currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Center for Community Action in Lumberton, NC. For ten years, she was the founding Executive Director of Native Americans in Philanthropy, an affinity group of the national Council on Foundations. Her service on nonprofit boards includes: the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits; the Wildacres Leadership Initiative; the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research; the North Carolina Community Solutions Network; the NC Rural Center; the North Carolina Discovery Alliance; the Foundation of Renewal for Eastern North Carolina (FoRENC); the Charles Bannerman Fellowship Program Advisory Committee; the Changemakers Fund; the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, and the Robeson County Community Foundation.
The work of NCGives builds on the fact that North Carolinians are generous with their time, talent and treasure. This is particularly true of women, communities of color and youth. NCGives celebrates, connects, inspires and grows these traditions of giving by sharing stories, models and tools.
