Mission Statement
NCGives seeks to celebrate, connect, inspire and grow the giving of time, talent and treasure in North Carolina by sharing stories, models and tools, particularly among communities of color, women and young people.
Vision Statement
Philanthropy (Giving) is transformed because there is sustained and strengthened voice by women, people of color and young people and improved recognition, collaboration and inclusion by the mainstream.
Our Role in the Community
North Carolinians are generous with their time, talent and treasure. This is particularly true of women, communities of color and youth. NCGives is an emerging, statewide initiative which focuses on the generosity of these groups by celebrating, connecting, inspiring and growing these traditions of giving.
NCGives seeks to revise the misconception that philanthropy - the giving of time, talent, and treasure - is the exclusive province of a wealthy few. We believe that by connecting people and groups within and across cultures of giving in North Carolina, we will inspire and encourage one another, share lessons and tools, bring others to the table of giving and promote positive community change. NCGives is not a funding source. Instead, NCGives supports givers by sharing stories, models and tools and by providing recognition and a supportive network.
NCGives is a field-of-interest fund advised by a diverse group of individuals. They were selected with consideration for diversity in all its dimensions. They represent the audiences of NCGives, geography of North Carolina, a range of involvement in the nonprofit sector and, most importantly, a demonstrated commitment to leadership in promoting giving. NCGives maintains a very small staff in the central office and has its work implemented by those who have demonstrated a capacity and commitment in the field.
In 2005, NCGives linked with a group of five partners actively involved in growing giving among communities of color, women and young people in the state. Since then, the community has continued to evolve into the following eight partners, in addition to NCGives:
NCGives Primary Group Partners
- Center for Participatory Change
- Creative Philanthropy
- Cumberland Community Foundation
- Hindsight Consulting
- Leading To Change
- North Carolina American Indian Fund
- North Carolina Network of Grantmakers
- North Carolina Peoples' Coalition for Giving
